Redemption in Konstanz: Bishops Beat Winterthur 25–23

An important home win, strong individual performances, and a clear step forward after the setback in Thun.

On Saturday, April 11, the Bishops — the combined Konstanz–St. Gallen side — welcomed Winterthur to Konstanz determined to answer both the recent disappointment in Thun and the bitter memory of the first-leg defeat, where a 21–0 lead had slipped away.

In warm sunshine, with the lake and the Alps providing a perfect backdrop, the home side started with intent. A major focus in training had been the lineout, and that work paid off immediately. Patryk and James were excellent in the air, giving the forwards a reliable platform and allowing the Bishops to build sustained pressure deep inside the Winterthur half. A few inaccuracies at the breakdown and in hand prevented an even bigger return, but the hosts still earned a deserved 13–0 lead at half-time.

Winterthur, however, came back strongly. Their scrum grew into the game and the visitors reduced the score to 13–10 early in the second half. This time, though, the response was immediate. The Bishops struck straight after the restart to extend the lead to 20–10 and regain momentum.

Several players stood out in open play. Josué, at scrum-half, distributed excellent ball throughout the match and added a try of his own. Kilian, back in Konstanz colours after having played for the club years ago, made a strong impression at inside centre and looked dangerous every time he touched the ball, also scored a try to celebrate his come back. Up front, Simba battled hard in the front row and repeatedly carried with power into the Winterthur defence.

Another strong pressure phase pushed the score to 25–17, but Winterthur remained dangerous until the final whistle. The visitors scored in the corner with the last play of the game, but the missed conversion left the Bishops with a deserved 25–22 victory.

Among the standout performers, Phil at number 8 was voted one of the best players of the match after a huge shift in both defence and attack, despite what looked like a broken nose. Nathan, at fly-half, was the other deserved choice, organising the attack brilliantly and giving the team direction throughout.

There was also a special moment on the sideline. Paul, who injured himself in Thun two weeks earlier, came to support the team on crutches just after surgery. What began as support quickly turned into coaching, as he helped the backs organise themselves during the game.

Attention now turns to Saturday, April 18, when the Bishops are at home again in St. Gallen against Würenlos. It will be a double home game, with the Cindies also in action — and the club will be aiming for nothing less than a double victory.

Gestern fand unser Schnuppertraining vom Rugby Frauenteam in St. Gallen statt – und es war einfach genial.

Wir durften 2 neue Damen aus Liechtenstein sowie 3 motivierte Mädels von der Poleria Rebstein bei uns begrüssen, die Rugby ausprobieren wollten. Trotz winterlicher Bedingungen wurde viel gelacht, gekämpft und ausprobiert.

Am Ende waren zwar alle ein bisschen dreckig – aber genau das gehört dazu ��

Vor allem konnten wir den Rugbyspirit und unseren starken Teamgeist weitergeben.

Danke an alle, die dabei waren – wir hoffen, euch bald wieder auf dem Feld zu sehen! ��✨

Yesterday we hosted a women’s rugby taster training in St. Gallen – and it was an absolute blast.

We were happy to welcome 2 new players from Liechtenstein as well as 3 motivated girls from Poleria Rebstein who wanted to give rugby a try. Despite the wintery conditions, there was lots of laughter, energy, and great first experiences.

By the end, everyone was a little muddy – but that’s all part of the game ��

Most importantly, we were able to share the true rugby spirit and the strong team culture of the Lakeside Unicorns.

Bishops Show Their Progress in Tough Battle at League Leaders Thun

Strong structure, real character, and a much closer contest to open the second half of the season.

On Saturday 28 March 2026 at 3.00pm, the Bishops — the entente between St. Gallen Rugby Club and Rugby Club Konstanz — kicked off the second half of the season with a demanding away fixture against Swiss league leaders Thun.

Despite the long bus journey, the mood in the squad was cheerful, focused and ready for the challenge. After a serious warm-up, the Bishops started with intent, and from the first whistle it was clear that this would be a very different contest from the heavy defeat suffered against Thun earlier in the season.

The Bishops stayed in the fight throughout and showed clear progress in both organisation and attitude. That improvement is no coincidence. It is the result of the coaches’ hard work during the interseason, especially on the team’s game structure, and those efforts are now starting to pay off on the pitch.

A major turning point came in the last ten minutes of the first half, when our number 10 from Konstanz suffered a serious injury. Until then, he had been playing brilliantly and was one of the Bishops’ most dangerous attacking weapons, breaking through the Thun defence several times with excellent runs and giving the team real momentum. Seeing him leave the game in that moment was a huge blow for the whole side.

Play was stopped for several minutes while the emergency services arrived and treated him on the field. As the delay continued, the weather worsened, the temperature dropped, and a storm began to roll in over the snow-covered mountains surrounding the pitch. In a fine show of rugby spirit, the Thun players invited our boys to warm up with them in their heated clubhouse during the stoppage — a gesture that was greatly appreciated.

The match itself was played on artificial turf, and it took its toll. By the end, many players had bloody, burnt knees, but the Bishops kept battling until the final whistle. In the end, too many penalties, too many lost lineouts, and missed opportunities inside Thun’s 22 prevented the team from turning key moments into points.

Still, there was a lot to be proud of. The final score of 29–15 for Thun reflected a much tighter and more competitive performance, and after the match even the home side acknowledged how much the Bishops had improved since the first encounter.

Among the standout performers were Simba from Konstanz, who put in a huge shift up front and fought like a lion all afternoon, and James from St. Gallen, who impressed in his very first match for the Bishops at scrum-half. Both were deservedly named players of the match.

After the game, the Bishops stayed together and waited for their injured teammate at the hospital. Unfortunately, after the initial diagnosis, he had to remain there overnight for further examinations. Everyone at the Bishops wishes him a full and speedy recovery.

The next challenge now awaits at home: Winterthur in Konstanz on 11.04. The team will use the next two weeks to keep building, improve discipline, and sharpen the lineout. But for that game, the Bishops will also need all the support possible. We encourage all supporters, friends, families and rugby lovers to come to Konstanz and get behind the team. International Rugby Comes to Konstanz: Boulder RFC (USA) vs. Bodensee United

On the weekend of October 25–27, 2025, Konstanz became the stage for international rugby, as the Boulder Rugby Football Club from Colorado, USA, concluded their European tour with two unforgettable days by the Bodensee.

The warm-up began on Friday evening, when the Konstanz players welcomed their American guests for what they humorously called a “joint training session” — not on the pitch, but at the Weinteufele Pub. Over a few cold beers and generous portions of Flammkuchen, both teams quickly broke the ice, sharing stories, laughs, and a first taste of the rugby friendship that would define the weekend.

The next day, the event kicked off with a fiercely contested Old Boys match, featuring veteran players from Bodensee United — a regional selection uniting Konstanz, St. Gallen, Tägerwilen, and Freiburg — facing the American tourists from Boulder. Despite the players’ years of experience — some well into their seventies — the game was played under full regulation rules, meaning real rugby with real tackles. The crowd loved it: physical, honest, and full of respect, it was proof that the rugby spirit never fades with age.

Then came the main international fixture, as the men’s teams of Bodensee United and Boulder RFC (Colorado, USA) clashed in a fast, competitive, and skillful encounter. Under the calm and fair officiating of Swiss referee François Molette, both matches were played in the finest spirit of rugby — no cards, no drama, just passion and fair play.

After the games, players and supporters enjoyed a refreshing dip in the lake, followed by a lively barbecue that turned into a festive evening of celebration. As night fell, the clubhouse transformed into a nightclub-style party, where players from both sides danced shoulder to shoulder to classics like Free Bird and Country Home — a highlight that even the Boulder players later called unforgettable.

In a heartfelt message after returning home, Charlie Kang, President of Boulder RFC, praised the “world-class hospitality” of Rugby Club Konstanz, calling the weekend “an incredible example of friendship and sportsmanship across continents.” He also extended an open invitation for our team to visit Boulder, Colorado, in the future.

For Rugby Club Konstanz and our Bodensee United partners, the event represented far more than just a pair of rugby matches. It was a celebration of international friendship, community, and the unifying power of rugby — proof that our sport truly transcends borders.

RCK/Bishops fall to Zug while RCK/Cindies shine in season opener

Hard-Fought Battle for the Bishops and a Strong Start for the Cindies

The RCK/Bishops faced Zug away this Saturday in a hard-fought encounter that ended 41–21 in favor of the home side. At halftime the score was still neck-and-neck at 15–14, with Bishops’ captain Oliver leading by example and crossing the line twice to keep the game wide open.

In the second half, however, Zug capitalized on a difficult spell for the Bishops, scoring four unanswered tries to pull away on the scoreboard.

Despite the setback, the team showed determination until the final whistle, with the forwards powering through for all three of the Bishops’ tries. While this defeat follows last week’s strong win in Biel, the Bishops remain confident. With lessons learned, they now turn their focus to the upcoming clash against Würenlos, where they aim to bounce back and deliver a stronger performance.

Meanwhile, the RCK/Cindies celebrated their first match day of the LNFB season in Winterthur. They kicked off with an impressive 31–12 win against Würenlos, followed by a spirited 17–17 draw against the hosts from Winterthur. A promising start that sets the tone for the season ahead.

Strong Second Half Secures 28–10 Away Win

This past Saturday, the Konstanz/St. Gallen men’s team kicked off the new 2025/26 season in the Swiss LNC East league with an away game against Biel.

The team made an ideal start: an early try with a successful conversion put Konstanz/St. Gallen 7–0 in front. With solid play throughout the first half, the advantage was extended to 14–0 at the break.

After halftime, Biel showed why they earned promotion from LND last season. They increased the pressure and managed to score two tries of their own. Fortunately for Konstanz/St. Gallen, both conversions were missed, leaving the score at a narrow 14–10.

In the final 15 minutes, the momentum swung back. Caleb—an experienced player but new to Konstanz—broke through the defense twice to score two excellent tries. With Matteo from St. Gallen in reliable form, all four conversions of the day were secured, sealing a deserved 28–10 victory.

A promising start to the season, against a strong Biel side making their debut in LNC. The team now looks forward to building on this performance in the coming matches.

Last Game of the Year in Morges

Determined Performance but a Narrow Loss to Close the Year

This weekend, the St. Gallen/RCK men’s team traveled to Morges by the beautiful Lake Geneva for their final match of the year.

The first half began with promise, as the team spent nearly 30 minutes camped in Morges' half, applying consistent pressure. However, as in previous games, the last five meters proved to be a major hurdle, and the team couldn’t convert their efforts into points. Meanwhile, penalties began to mount, giving Morges the opportunity to score twice, leaving the scoreline at 6-0 going into the break.

The second half started on a high note with a well-earned try that brought the score closer. Due to continued struggles with penalties, Morges managed to extend their lead to 9-5 points with another successful kick. Konstanz/St. Gallen rallied once again, maintaining pressure and scoring a second try to take a narrow 10-9 lead.

Unfortunately, afterwards further penalties were conceded, two of which Morges kicked and converted. These proved decisive, and the game ended with a narrow 15-10 loss for Konstanz/St. Gallen.

With this game marking the end of the first half of the season, the team now looks forward to regrouping and returning stronger in spring. Thank you to all our supporters for your encouragement throughout the year. We’ll be back in action soon - stay tuned!

Close Games and Determined Performances from Our Men’s and Women’s Teams

Our women’s team played two games in the LNFB league. The first match against Winterthur started strong, with two early tries showcasing some great skills and teamwork. However, Winterthur came back after the break, evening out the score. In the final minutes, Winterthur managed to cross the try line once more, resulting in a narrow 15-14 loss for Konstanz/St. Gallen.

In their second game against Würenlos, the women displayed strong rugby skills once again but struggled to convert them into points on the scoreboard. Despite good efforts and strong spirit, they finished with a 22-12 loss. We saw some close contests in both matches, and the team remains eager to build on these performances.

For the men’s team , the match against Monthey started on a high note, with Konstanz/St. Gallen scoring the opening try and dominating possession in the first twenty minutes, keeping the pressure on in Monthey’s half. Yet, Monthey managed to score in response, and by halftime, the score was balanced at 12-12. Early in the second half, Konstanz/St. Gallen pulled ahead with a successful penalty kick. However, Monthey’s forwards showed strength in the final stages, scoring two more tries through powerful mauls, leading to a final score of 24-15 in Monthey’s favor.

Tough Battle in Würenlos for Konstanz/St. Gallen men's team.

This weekend, the Konstanz/St. Gallen men’s team traveled to Würenlos for another Swiss league fixture. The team started strong and almost crossed the try line within the first few minutes. However, Würenlos struck first, scoring a try shortly after. Konstanz/St. Gallen quickly responded with a try of their own, showing strength throughout the first half. Despite several promising opportunities, they couldn't convert them into points, while Würenlos managed to be more efficient, adding another try and a penalty before halftime.

In the second half, Konstanz/St. Gallen showed improvement, scoring a second try. However, Würenlos had just a bit more in the tank on the day, finishing with a total of three tries. The match ended with a 24-12 scoreline in favor of Würenlos.

Although the result didn’t go our way, the team is optimistic heading into the next match, which will be a home game in Konstanz. We hope to see all our supporters there to cheer us on!

Double Away Day for Rugby Club Konstanz

This Saturday saw both the women’s and men’s teams from Rugby Club Konstanz head out for away games, with intense matches in Kanton Bern.

The women’s team had a thrilling game day in the LNFB league, playing two matches in Bern. In their first game, they faced Basel RFC and delivered a great performance. With sharp teamwork and strong individual displays, they secured a convincing 26-5 victory.

In their second game of the day, they came up against Jura Féminine. It was a close and hard-fought battle right until the end, with both teams giving everything they had. Despite their great effort, the women narrowly lost 19-17 in what was a fiercely competitive match. Overall, it was a great showing from the team, and they can be proud of their performance across both games.

The men’s team , competing in the LNC league alongside their teammates from St. Gallen, traveled to Thun's Rugby Club. Despite being short-handed, the team started strong, scoring the first try of the match. The first half was an intense back-and-forth contest, with both sides exchanging points. At halftime, Thun held a narrow lead at 21-15.

The second half continued with both teams pushing hard. Thun extended their lead with two tries, but St. Gallen/Konstanz fought back, bringing the score to 31-27 with around 10 minutes remaining. Despite several close attempts inside Thun’s 5-meter zone, the lack of substitutes began to show, and the men couldn’t capitalize on their chances. Thun managed to score two more tries in the final minutes, ending the game with 45-27.

In terms of tries, the men’s team lost only 7-5, showing the intensity and balance of the match.

Both our teams displayed great spirit on this weekend, and the Rugby Club Konstanz is looking forward to their next matches. A big thank you to all supporters who continue to cheer on the teams!

A Muddy but Memorable first Home Game in Konstanz

This past weekend, we had the pleasure of playing our first home game of the season on our beautiful pitch in Konstanz, once again facing the Rugby Club from Zug. Despite the rain earlier in the day, the weather cleared just in time for kickoff, leaving us with a wet, muddy pitch – perfect conditions for some classic rugby!

The first half presented its challenges, as Zug took advantage of a few gaps in our defense, finding the try line several times. However, in the second half, we regrouped and started to hit our stride better. Both our offense and defense worked more cohesively, and our overall performance improved significantly. Even though we fought hard and showed good spirit, we were unable to put points on the board. Zug's persistence and strength allowed them to break through again, resulting in a final score of 0-39.

Despite the outcome, it was fantastic to play on our home pitch together with our team mates from St Gallen, and we were overwhelmed by the support from our friends and fans who came out to cheer us on. A big thank you to everyone for the encouragement!

We're already looking forward to our next match, and we’ll be back stronger and more determined than ever!

Season Opener: Tough Match in Zug, But Spirits Remain High

RCK men start the summer season with a win in a friendly 10s game against Tägerwilen.

This weekend, we kicked off our rugby season with an away game in Zug. It felt great to get back on the field, playing once again with our friends from St. Gallen as one team. Although the weather was on the chilly side, it was perfect for rugby.

The first half proved challenging, as we struggled to find our rhythm and calibration as a team. Zug capitalized on this, scoring several tries. But in the second half, we regrouped and showed great rugby spirit. The entire team worked hard, and we started playing together much more fluidly. Our efforts paid off as we crossed the try line twice. This was a true testament to our determination, as we were only 15 players and everyone was pushing through the full 80 minutes with great tenacity.

In the end, Zug’s strong overall performance resulted in a 63-14 scoreline. Despite the tough result, we remain optimistic and are looking forward to facing Zug again on our home pitch in Konstanz in two weeks. We’ll be ready for the rematch!

RCK Sommerfest 2024: A Fun-Filled Day at Rugby Club Konstanz

Last Saturday, we held our RCK Sommerfest 2024, and it was a delightful day for everyone involved. Players from all age groups joined in, creating a wonderful mix of experience and enthusiasm.

The main event of the day was a Touch Rugby tournament. We initially formed three mixed teams, consisting of children, youth, men, and women, highlighting the inclusive spirit of our club. The matches were enjoyable and spirited, with teams being reshuffled throughout the day to keep the games interesting and engaging. We played according to the official Touch Rugby rules - special thanks to our Touch Rugby referee who ensure fairness and good structure.

We enjoyed a casual barbecue alongside the activities, allowing everyone to grab a bite and socialize. In the evening, we hosted a Hawaii-themed party, which added a fun and festive atmosphere to the day's conclusion.

We would like to extend our gratitude to our friends from the Rugby Clubs of St. Gallen and Tägerwilen for joining us and adding to the enjoyment of the day. Additionally, a big thank you to all the hardworking volunteers who helped organize and run the event. Your efforts made the Summer Fest 2024 a success.

Exciting Weekend at the Bishop's Cup in St. Gallen

RCK men and women team up with Bishop's and Cindies/Rottweil for some great matches of rugby in this year's Bishop's Cup.

Last weekend, the RCK men and women teams had the pleasure of participating in this year's Bishop's Cup in St. Gallen, an international 10s rugby tournament. The event featured teams from Switzerland, Germany, Czech Republic, and Italy, making for a thrilling two days of rugby action, despite some rainy weather.

The RCK men teamed up with our friends from the Bishop's, continuing our regular season partnership. Saturday saw us putting up a solid fight, achieving two strong draws against the Lemon's Team and the Blue Barbarians. However, we faced tough losses against the Black Unicorn Sevens and the Hausen Baboons. On Sunday, we played our hearts out and ended up in 10th place out of 15 teams after a nail-bitingly close match against the Lemon's team, that was unfortunately lost.

The RCK women, joining forces with the Cindies from St. Gallen and their friends from Rottweil, faced a challenging Saturday with losses in all their games. However, we came back with determination on Sunday, securing two impressive victories against Würenlos and the Zürich Valkyries. These victories earned us a respectable 5th place out of 8 teams.

We also had a fantastic weekend off the pitch while meeting old friends and making new friends during some well deserved drinks after the games and a great costume party on Saturday.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to St. Gallen for hosting such a wonderful event. Despite the weather, we had an amazing time and are already looking forward to next year’s tournament.

RCK men start the summer season with a win in a friendly 10s game against Tägerwilen.

Despite the rainy weather, the Rugby Club Konstanz team had an exhilarating match day on the field against our local friends from Tägerwilen. The event marked the beginning of our summer rugby season with two thrilling 10 vs. 10 games, each lasting 25 minutes.

The rain couldn't dampen our spirits as both teams showcased their skills and passion for the sport. The games were filled with numerous tries, and it was a true testament to the hard work and dedication of all the players. In the end, Konstanz emerged victorious in both matches, but the real victory was the camaraderie and sportsmanship displayed by both teams.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Tägerwilen for hosting us and for the excellent games. The friendly competition was topped off with shared laughs and beers, making it a perfect start to the season.

With more 10s and 7s tournaments on the horizon, we are excited and ready to continue this momentum. Here's to a fantastic summer of rugby!
